January 05, 2024

A possible motorcycle route through Morocco to the Tropic of Cancer that combines paved roads (on-road) and dirt roads (off-road) and includes places of interest could be the following:

Tangier : Morocco's northern port city is a good starting point. Here you can visit the Kasbah, the medina, the port, and the beach.

Tetouan : From Tangier, you can take the N16 highway south and then the N2 east to Tetouan, a city with a well-preserved medina and a lively main square.

Chefchaouen : From Tetouan, follow the N2 south to Chefchaouen, a picturesque town famous for its blue buildings and nearby mountains. In Chefchaouen, you can walk through the medina and hike in the nearby mountains.

Fes : From Chefchaouen, take the N13 south to Fes, Morocco's oldest imperial city. Here you can visit the medina, the tombs of the Marinid rulers, and the Bou Inania Mosque.

Merzouga : From Fes, take the N13 southeast to the town of Erfoud and then continue on the R702 to Merzouga, a small town at the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, you can take a camel trek through the Erg Chebbi dunes and spend the night in a desert camp.

Tinghir : From Merzouga, take the N12 west to Tinghir, a town in the Todra River Valley, famous for its rocky gorges. Here you can hike and climb in the Todra and Dadès Gorges.

Ouarzazate : From Tinghir, take the N10 west to Ouarzazate, a town in the heart of the Draa Valley, surrounded by mountain scenery and palm groves. Here you can visit the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, a stunning complex of mud buildings that has been used in several films.

Marrakech : From Ouarzazate, take the N9 north to Marrakech, one of Morocco's most vibrant and lively cities. Here you can visit Djemaa el-Fna Square, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, and the Majorelle Gardens.

Essaouira : From Marrakech, take the N8 west to Essaouira, a coastal town with a relaxed atmosphere and a well-preserved medina. Here you can walk along the beach, visit the fishing port, and shop for local handicrafts.

This route combines on- and off-road sections and takes you through some of Morocco's most interesting sites, from ancient and imperial cities to mountain and desert landscapes. Of course, you should adapt the route to your driving skills and preferences.
